Rental demand in London increased 7% from a year earlier, marking a reversal from previous declines and positioning the capital against a weaker national backdrop.

Across the UK, tenant enquiries were 2% below their level a year ago, according to Property Wire's report on Rightmove data. The figures point to a widening divide between the capital and the broader rental market.

London is now one of only two UK regions to record annual growth in rental demand. The result gives landlords, letting agents and investors a clearer signal of relative tenant activity in the capital, even as national enquiries remain subdued.

The data measures demand through tenant enquiries rather than completed lettings. As a result, it indicates where prospective renter interest is strengthening, while offering no direct assessment of agreed rents, available supply or transaction volumes.
