One in three software products approved for HMRC’s Making Tax Digital programme cannot yet file a complete tax return for landlords, according to an analysis of the tax authority’s official software list.

Of 128 approved products, 44 either lack full tax-return filing functions or list those capabilities as still under development, Property Wire reported.

Limited filing functionality

The gap highlights a distinction between software that has secured Making Tax Digital approval and products able to handle every stage of a landlord’s tax-return process. Landlords and property businesses considering digital tax tools may need to establish whether a chosen platform supports complete return submission.

For investors, brokers and developers with rental income, the finding underscores the need to review software functions alongside approval status as digital tax reporting requirements expand.
