Propertymark has called for local landlord licensing schemes in England to be withdrawn once a national landlord register is operational.
The industry body argues that maintaining both national and locally administered systems would create unnecessary duplication for landlords and add significant costs.
Its position is that local licensing has not delivered better enforcement outcomes sufficient to justify retaining separate schemes alongside the planned register.
The proposal would make the national register the central framework for landlord oversight, rather than requiring property owners to navigate additional local requirements. The call was outlined in a report by Property Wire.
